Audierne River

We arrived into Audierne a little after 8PM —  a perfectly timed arrival with enough water to make it up the channel, the harbormaster gone (we still prefer not an audience on arrival) and enough time to walk the dogs before PIZZA—TV—BED.

First impressions: a little rough around the edges. How charming. We haven’t seen this France yet. Larmor all winter was always so posh and composed. Groix — perfect in every way. But this—this was different. It’s trying. An underdog. A man in cargo shorts and rubber canary yellow sandals. ( In FL, yes, but here not so much.)

A hopping Tabac. Grey, very grey Bureau de Port buildings. Oh we’re on the ugly end of town? How great. ( One is always so happy to arrive in port, whatever condition one finds it.) Better we’e not on the cute end of town. Probably too busy, too hectic. Would be too hard to walk the dogs. Our luck. Just perfect.

George swam at a boat ramp, we wandered the edge of a caravan park — is that maybe something injectable, we…and small bits of refuse.

Oh something injectable

I’m not sure I’d seen a single piece of errant rubbish all our months in Larmor and Groix.

The sporty little 8.5M sloop berthed next to us has not 1 but 2 little old ladies on it. Proper 70s and slightly stooped. And a man, said Hanna, as I was hanging up the privacy screens. He just came out and stood there…and watched. No shame! No x bonsai’s,, just pinch-faced staring. Oh! We’re the something new!

We’re fed and restored. Several days of northerlies on their way so we’re staying put before the Raz de Sein transit.

We’ll see what else we find.
