East Timor's Mobile Mums

East Timor's Mobile Mums

11 years after its independence, East Timor is still the poorest country in Asia. While health services are free, most people can’t easily access the facilities due to bad infrastructure. But healthcare is improving for the 1.2 million Timorese. A new program just launched in the Manufahi district hopes to utilize mobile technology to give pregnant women better care and access to midwives.

I’m still at sea.

This post is from my first voyage, sailing alone around the world from 2009 to 2015. These days I live aboard El Dorado in France and send dispatches from the boat.
