About the Captain

Emily Richmond spent nearly ten years sailing alone to some of the most remote places on earth, and she wrote home from every one of them. Today she lives aboard her sailboat, El Dorado, with her partner Hanna. They spend winters tied up in Paris and the warm months on the rivers and canals of France. Her essays have appeared in Vice, frankie and The Billfold, and her radio documentaries have aired on ABC and Deutsche Welle. Her story has been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and in National Geographic Traveller. She is finishing a memoir about her years at sea. Every Foreign Correspondence Club dispatch is written by Emily aboard El Dorado, signed by her, and posted from whatever port the boat is in.
